that's absolutely the correct reaction to such a problem. i would not ordinarily condone the prima-donna-bike-throw, but just *think* of the sponsor time he got. it's as good as winning the stage.

And he didn't have to run. Mishap in the final kilometer gets S.T.
FYI, pros aren't concerned about seeing their 55th place up on bikereg... it's either you win, or you lose.
I was hoping to see that before the VS show this weekend. I can't blame him. He stood a good chance of winning that.

sponsor time wouldn't have been THAT dissimilar if he chose to cyclocross the bike towards the finish (ie shoulder it and run)
heck 10 years ago the bike would have been too heavy for him to launch to clear the barricades...
maybe bikes SHOULD weigh 20 pounds!
