Teardrops

The Workingman's Stage Race, promoted by my club, BOB Cycling, is next week. Stage 1 is the most important time trial of the year for me, and probably the most important race for that matter. Last year, I finished a disappointing 8th, 37 seconds off the lead. Although I have yet to do a TT this year, which is not good, otherwise I feel I'm on track for a decent showing. In 2006 my equipment was not exactly up to par with the guys who beat me either. Look what came in the mail yesterday. Thanks for reading.

  2. so how was the 'Tuck last night?

did any men with disk wheels show up?

  3. Yes, Marro came to Wompatuck. Some of the usual suspects were AWOL, but despite only being about 35 riders, it was pretty fast, 42.6 kph average. The Cronoman did not ride with he covered wheel...

I felt pretty good. I won't be going to Rehoboth for numerous reasons, the main one being I think it's too much to do two TT's only 5 days apart.

jb, I go with the shoe covers. Some study I read claimed that two water bottles was actually the most aero if there are any crosswinds, as you get some taking effect. Another said seat tube only, as it fairs the rear wheel. I've heard about how bad gloves are, but I wear them as it's a safety issue. Once upon a time I was going for the skateboard land speed record and lost all the skin off the heels of my hands, and it's a trauma I don't want to re-live, especially now that I need to keyboard to eek out a living.

Brucie, only white shoecovers are gay. As noted by JM, anything white is gay, unless you're World Champion. Then it's still gay, but at least you're World Champion.

I really am a warm, nurturing, ray of sunshine type of person.

  4. Man, that's a lot of misspellings for one post. And hey jb, I hope you got a chance to click through all the TT photos. Colman's position looks awesome. Sammy and Stephanos's look good too. Tyler and Mills also beat me, despite their crappy positions, but they're Tyler and Mills, and have the power to overcome. As for the rest of the competitors, well...

  5. no covered wheel for cronoman?

    wtf...

    that is pretty insane...

    about the waterbottles...

take the cages off... or put bottles in.

no bare cages - they is slowest...

on the P-mount i'm finding i can't get my core any lower, as it is my massive gargantuan thighs that would make Marty Nothstien (in his prime) look down right toothpicky are hitting my rib cage, so i dunno if i can get much lower...

and if MIF's frame size is somewhat of an indication, me riding a 60cm paramount is pretty close to Pisshead riding a 50cm...

  7. wow, there's some rough positions on there. Bob guy w/ the white disk looks pretty good but needs to angle arm up a bit. let me see if i can find a link...

oh, re downtube - yeah, i was thinking if you have aero DT, don't stick a bottle on there. carry on.

  8. that's hilarious. Nice pics eh?
Lastly (jeezuz, lots of comments): Yeah, you maybe want to spend some time on the TT rig before the big day :-)

  9. It's nice, but someone has graciously provided me with a new TT rig. Should end up with the same position as before, be 5 pounds lighter, and have aero tubing to boot. I've procured enough parts to cobble it together without cannibalizing the Marukin, just in case I don't get this done. Right now the plan it to do the build tomorrow, then head to Claremont, then test ride the new TT bike on Sunday.

  11. I posted it to the BOB list. No WMSR for you? There are still 5 spots left in the 4's. You can have a front row seat to see if Gewilli can handle Zoo in the TT.

If you're not going to race, how about pace car driving on Wednesday? Maybe Elle would ride in the back and make a movie? You would need to be there by 5:30.

  12. No WMSR for me. MTB national champs at Mt Snow on Friday morning.

If you need a pace car driver for a night I might be able to oblige. When and where would you need help? Would I need to drive my car? Elle has a convertible - mayb that'd be fun for video taking...

I work in Beverly so... how far is the race from there?

  13. OH yeah - the flyer posted won't download to a mac.

  14. We complained to our webmaster about the flyer. He is an MS shill. If you download it and then rename it with a .pdf it should work.

Your car or the convertible would be fine. You may or may not be asked to take an official with you. The sun is also blinding in parts of the course, so bring dark sunglasses.

The road race is in Amesbury. Beverly is actually not too far. You have to go up toward 495, but there is no exit to 495 south from 95N. After the steel bridge you take 110 west and it's a few miles from there. The races start at 6 sharp so they will probably want you there no later than 5:30 for a meeting. If you could do it, that would be huge because we're always scrambling. Nobody commits, but then usually we do end up with enough people. I'll tell them you are down for pace car only, no marshalling... Let me know if you think you can get out of work in time. Thanks!
