Stirring the Pot

Gewilli must feel like Gerry Cooney after the Holmes fight today. Where is Mills Lane when we need him? Thanks for reading.

  1. Wow. Quite a donnybrook.

I'm glad I have nothing to do with it.

I think the choices riders make as to which race race to do is more suspect than what races the promoter offer is.

Curley in the B Masters race and such.

  3. At least Gewilli didn't retaliate by punching me in the nuts.

  4. curley seemed to have a time constraint...

as in he came to race but had to leave before the big masters race...

    and he's a 3 so why not...

bruce - ya been reading my wonderful grammar too much i guess

  5. Curley a three? Sure.

He may hold a Cat III license but he is a full time rider for the most part and in a cyclocross race is competative with much younger fields. I dunno.

  6. I don't know Brucie. I know Curley is perhaps the most successful cross racer in US history, but he's 55 years old now, so I'll cut him some slack. He's not winning the 35 or even the 45+ A race anymore.

But Ge, the whole purpose of having masters races is to separate us out from the younger guys. One reason for this is sort of obvious - getting old slows you down. The other is that we all have the same obligations, i.e. jobs, and since we're not full time riders like the young elites might be, they give us our own arena. Within that arena, we all have an equal chance to compete. Does a promoter really need to break it down further to give you more chance to win?

AFAIK, Jon Bold is a carpenter or something. That's a physical job. Yet he trains his ass off, kick's everyone else's, and he deserves to be the winner.

You called the Cronoman a sandbagger because he won a 3/4 master race. Well, he is a cat 3. He is also pushing 47 years old, which is 12 over the minimum. Yes, he's been racing for 20 years, but guess what? The vast majority of that time he has held down two jobs, sometimes working 50 hours a week at the day gig and moonlighting as an infantryman in the goddamn army. That's a lot more stressful than eating Paczi and tickling the keyboard in the bowels of the Brown U basement, isn't it? So who is at a disadvantage here?

I am bummed that Gewilli posted yet another humble and apologetic response entry. One of these days I'm going to smack him and he's going to smack me back...

And my offer still stands if you want to come to Middleboro tonight and show me how it's done.

  7. it wasn't a master race iirc it was a plain old 3/4...

and i didn't call him it publicly...

i ain't gonna smack you back...

breaking it down isn't to give more people a chance to win...

breaking it down is to improve competition...

when i'm done reading the necx archives i'll be ready to weigh in on shit...

and see'n as ya bringing up Marro... He has enough points to upgrade to a 2...

    maybe he should...

    or not...

after all the categories don't mean anything to masters now do they...

Thank god marro's a tough sumbitch.
