Mount A Trash Talk

There are two good races on the calendar this weekend. On Saturday, we have the Gate City Cyclone Criterium promoted by Team BOB and Goodales Bike Shops in Nashua NH. This is on the old course around Holman Stadium. Don't miss this as it is one of the best crit courses in New England, and a chance to race close to home.

Sunday we have the Mount Friggin' A Time Trial up in Maine. I know some of you are off doing the 24 hours of Bug Bites at Mt Washington, but the real racing is at Mt A on Sunday. Here are several reasons to do the race at Mount A, even if you don't like TTs.

1) You don't need a TT bike. In fact, aerobars are not allowed at this event.
2) They are not allowed because part of the course is a downhill dirt road.
3) The downhill dirt road is cool.
4) The downhill dirt road turns into an uphill dirt road.
5) Before you get to the dirt road, you have a few miles of nice, flat paved road.
6) Even before that, you get to start on a cool wooden starting ramp, just like in the tour.
7) If I remember correctly, they even have the beeping thing.
8) Even if I'm imagining that part, the ramp is still cool.
9) The steep $30 entry fee mostly goes to a trails alliance, and the rest goes toward running this cool race with lots of prizes.
10) The course finishes on the Mt A access road, a steep, switchbacked, paved climb of about a mile at 10% or so. Last year complete with a dude in the Devil costume.

This is a fun event, grassroots bike racing at its best. Maine hospitality too. If you don't go to Mount A, you can't trash talk. If you are going, please lay it down now. See you there, thanks for reading.

  1. heck this race is so epic and awesome that i am foregoing a crit down the road in Fall River... wait... i still don't like crits... no surprise...

Go Race at Mt A, go shopping in Kittery, what more can ya ask for on a sunday! Heck maybe even swing through O'Naturals for some grub!

So how ya handicappin everyone for sunday Nega-Coach?

What say ya predictions for Cronoman, Yogurt Boy, and Ge-slow-willi? anyone else you handicappin?

Is little miss pony going to defend her title/set new record?

will solobreak beat the king of the mountains Jansen?

  2. Last year -

    Winner - 20:29
    Feltslave - 22:54
    Solobreak (flat tire) - 23:39
    Cronoman - 24:03
    KL - 24:37
    Gewilli - 25:37
    Zoo - 26:55

This year the gaps should be a lot tighter. I have not yet decided whether or not to unveil my new secret weapons. Will need to see the condition of the dirt road first. Might end up on GP4s to be safe.

I'm predicting Zoo will give the croissant-laden Gewilli a run for his butter. Gewilli's powertap will probably start to malfunction on the bumps and he'll spend a mile or so messing with it, then have to lug it up the hill at the end.

The Cronoman will have to improve upon last year.

  4. Fall River crit sucked for me last year.. 100 degrees and I had a meltdown and quit.. Maybe I should try this "Mount A" event.. Tell I can get there in 2 hours and maybe I will.

  5. If you drive fast, Murat. 132 miles from Warwick. The race is just over the border from NH, but it's about 10 miles off the highway. We'd like to see you at Nashua on Saturday too. Technical course and good prize money... should be more fun than Silver City.

  6. "24 hours of Bug Bites at Mt Washington" ?? More like "24 hours of Hardcore Bike Racing featuring CTodd probably dying in the woods" -- it's gonna be awesome.

  7. last year my bike computer wasn't working, and then my HRM wouldn't work either...

    so i rode it "blind"

hopefully the data logging bike computer thing called a power tap will function normally for me...

or at the very least i get more than one metric from it speed, cadence, HR, power... all would be great... but any combination of something is better than nothing...
